7 in the spotlight
Giving you the heads up on what’s going down

1. Hot Air
A poll by a UK travel agency revealed that the majority of Brits are planning to join the world’s most opportunistic club in 2009. A saucy 51% are hoping to take out membership of the “Mile High Club” this year, with another 21% considering it.
Now, just how long have those toilets been engaged?
2. Fierce and Fabulous
Beyonce (aka Sasha Fierce) nailed a diamond telly moment when she dueted with Alexandra Burke on The X Factor. Clever Chezza kept it under wraps, so that when the bootylicous one took the stage we couldn’t believe our tear-filled eyes. Now, you can see her belt out her hits live, with more dates added to her tour this summer. Just announced: 22 May at the Newcastle Arena. Otherwise, fingers crossed for the few remaining seats for 27 May at the MEN Arena in Manchester and 31 May at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.
3. A Mod Musical
When The Who released Quadrophenia in 1973 every parka-wearer had a new soundtrack to their lives. Rolling Stone magazine named it one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and now the rock opera hits the stage for the first time. Rock out to the story of Jimmy, a boy who quits his dead-end job in London and sets off on his scooter for a trip to Brighton that will change his life. Catch it at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre from 25 May and later at Manchester Opera House and Leeds Grand.
4.Cred Beds
This hotel caught our eye this spring. Seaham Hall is located twenty minutes’ south of Newcastle and part of the swanky Von Essen group. We love it because 99% of celebs that gig in the area stay there. You could end up asking previous guest Kylie to pass her salt scrub in the Serenity Spa, which was voted best spa for style by the Sunday Times. A short jog over the front lawn and you’re on the beach, asking her to join you in seaside sun salutations too. www.seaham-hall.co.uk
5. Bookish Babes
We’re a big fan of book bags, mainly because they make us look studious and super smart. Accessorize have gone one better and made sure we look “Cute As A Button” too. Perfect for stashing your beach read, sarong and sun cream.
Available nationwide and at www.monsoon.co.uk, £15.
6. Rankin Live
What could you have in common with Heidi Klum, Kylie Minogue, and the Queen? By this summer you might have joined the ranks of amazing people who have been shot by bad boy photographer Rankin. The star snapper is looking for people aged 13 and over with their own distinctive style, British eccentricity and enthusiasm to take part in his Rankin Live! exhibition. Submit your photo, and an explanation of why you should be chosen, to: rankinlive@rankin.co.uk Winning participants will be invited to London’s Old Truman Brewery in August 2009 for their shoot and Northerners need definitely apply.
7. One For The Road

If you’re stuck deciding what to read on the beach this summer, The Telegraph newspaper has compiled a very helpful list of the top 20 travel books of all time. Winning page-turners include On The Road by Jack Kerouac, Venice by Jan Morris and The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemmingway. www.telegraph.co.uk
