Travel Clinic

Have dreams. Will travel.

For the next week, home is another place and ‘holiday’ is not just a destination, it’s a state of mind. Sit back and live the moment with a visit to the travel clinic and all things jetset.

Spa Spy

In the first of this series we banish stress, insomnia and general exhaustion to go in search of the best places to get your mojo back.

Stop the world I want to get off at… the Ayush Wellness Spa, Jersey.

Ayush means long, healthy life in Sanskrit and, situated alongside the island’s fancy 4 star Hotel de France, this spa is the perfect way to detox after a marathon Jersey cream tea session (see our Just for 2 pages).

Dr Prasanna Kerur, is an expert practitioner of Ayurvedic medicine — the ancient health care system from India.

First, he takes your pulse and then talks a little about any problems you might have, what you’re eating, and what your exercise and sleep habits are like. From that he can tell what two predominant elements of fire, earth, water, space or air make up your dosha (or mind and body type).

I’m often dehydrated, sleep erratically, over-exercise and binge-eat which all feeds into his conclusion that I’m mainly a fire and air person. He then diagnoses treatments which will help rebalance your system

The Shirodhara is the ultimate insomnia cure, and the best treatment of the day. It begins with a foot massage and some heat therapy around the body, then warm oil is massaged into the scalp before a gentle stream of herb-infused oil is poured continuously onto the “third eye” (your forehead) for fifteen or twenty minutes (who knows? It felt like hours!). Said to quieten the mind and soothe the nervous system it knocked me out instantly into a deep, heavenly, comatose state where I would happily have stayed for the rest of my life.

PLAYLIST:

Crazy In Love – Beyonce
Bleeding Love – Leona Lewis
Close to Me – The Cure

“Crazy in Love is still THE song I want to hear when I’m getting ready for a night out. I love Beyonce!

I voted for Leona so many times on X Factor and I was so impatient waiting for her album, but it was well worth the wait. This tune is perfect. The Cure are one of my favourite bands. I remember my mum taking me to see them at Finsbury Park in London when I was about 3. It was so good!”
