HOME July 2007

Save the planet! Take your cue from oh-so-groovy tapas bar Andy Wahloo in Paris (69 Rue des Gravilliers, +33 01 4271 2038) and breathe new life into discarded junk.

This Moroccan flavoured homage to Andy Warhol was created by London-based Moroccan artist Hasan Hajjij for the Mazouz brothers. They’re the team behind 404 in Paris, plus Momo and Sketch in London. The quirky interior is a collage of road signs, adverts, paint cans and grocery items.

Like the look? Here are some more designers who have transformed rubbish into something special…

TROLLIED

Check out these innovative seating options by Barcelona-based Vaho Works. Industrial designers Luca Leonardi and Patricio Abreu are the team behind the funky and durable looking barrel chair and shopping chair – ideal statement pieces for loft living. €350, www.vaho.ws

FAIRY JARS

Who’d have thought discarded jars could look so cute? These lights by Sebastian Denver Hejna of Farm Designs come in various configurations – chandeliers, pendants, or table lamps, but our favourite are the oversized fairy lights. At £40 per light it’s not the cheapest option, but remember, you’re saving the planet… £40 each, www.farmdesigns.co.uk

PLANT LIFE

These funky planters are by Kim Jenkins, aka Luckybird, a printmaker based in London’s East End. Made from heavy-duty recycled sacks and ribbon (measuring approx 13cm high), they’re a great way to add fun and colour to a small outdoor area such as a roof terrace. £5.95 each, www.pedlars.co.uk

PEG IT

These Peggy Sue lights are composed of clothes pegs printed with designs on reclaimed lamp bases adorned with toy animals. They’re created by Anglo-Italian Studiomold, who also use old plastic bottles in their Big Crush Lamps, which come in black, gold or red. Peggy Sue £112, Big Crush £240 www.studiomold.co.uk
