CHECK IN July 2007
2 MINS WITH… SARAH HARDING
Q You’ve just finished the Greatest Hits tour. What can we expect from Girls Aloud during the rest of 2007?
Lots more tunes, fun and frolics! We’re working on a new album. We are all still very ambitious. We’re feisty females and we still have a lot to achieve.
Q Who is the celebrity you admire most?
Madonna. She’s iconic, confident, outspoken and a strong female.
Q Where’s the strangest place Girls Aloud have ever played a show?
The Oval cricket ground. It was full of men and the atmosphere was very rowdy, with the audience fuelled by lots and lots of beer. There weren’t any women there at all.
Q The papers portray you as someone who likes to party. Does that bother you?
Yes it does bother me, only because I actually don’t drink and go out as much as other people my age do. It just looks that way in the paper.
Q Do you hate paparazzi photographing you on the beach?
I love the beach. With regards to the paparazzi, most of the time you don’t even know that they’re there. If they use nice pictures then that’s fine, but I don’t like seeing my cellulite!
Q Did you have any worries about modeling underwear for Ultimo, the lingerie brand?
I think every woman would feel nervous about modeling lingerie, but still I jumped at the chance..
Who wouldn’t want to follow in the footsteps of supermodels like Rachel Hunter and Helena Christensen? I was honored when Ultimo asked me to model.
Q Two of Rod Stewart’s girlfriends have been the face of Ultimo – how would you feel if you got a phone call from him?
I’d laugh! Not that it is ever likely to happen.
Q What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
I don’t need no good advice! Ha ha!

BORN LIPPY
The column where JetAway’s Sophy Grimshaw gets to mouth off. This issue: are holiday tattoos ever a good idea?
The beach: as photos of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee on holiday this summer remind us, it’s the place where you see everyone’s tattoos in their full glory. But it’s not necessarily a great place to get one. The spontaneous holiday tattoo is like the fifth cocktail: indulging in one on a balmy night in the Balearics seems just what the carefree ‘new you’ would do. But come the morning, it’s the old you who looks worse for wear in the bathroom mirror.
Like the gossip that I am, I’ll cite the example of a friend. To symbolise her travellin’ ways, while on holiday in Spain this jetsetter asked for a tattoo of footprints on her back – but the distracted body artist gave the design two left feet. She is a pretty bad dancer, but that’s not the tat she had in mind. And a friend’s brother who got a tattoo while drunk in Texas (yes, wise!) now feels rather sheepish about the profanity emblazoned on his back.
When Pammy herself regretted a tattoo after a break-up, ‘Tommy’ became ‘Mommy’; but with most words, or that charming tat of a dolphin leaping in front of a setting sun, changing your mind won’t be so easy. Pam still has the armband from her failed movie Barb Wire to prove it.
That’s the thing about holiday tattoos: if the mood takes you, do what you feel – but don’t forget that you’ll be taking that tat on holiday every year.
