Leeds’ answer to José González?
An unsigned Leeds singer could be set to hit the big time after a song he wrote and performed was featured in our high profile TV campaign.
Newly launched Jet2holidays.com has already received more than 1,000 requests for ‘that ad song’ since the television commercial first aired during Coronation Street on 12 February.
The advert, which has been heavily played, not just in the Yorkshire region but across the UK, has prompted a deluge of requests for the mystery tune.
Jet2holidays.com has now posted the song on its website so it can be downloaded for free, and the holiday company has revealed the details of the mystery melody. It is not, as many people have claimed, from an existing album, nor even from an established artist.
The singer-songwriter is a 25-year-old, part-time worker from Leeds Met who, in his spare time, writes songs in his Hyde Park bedroom.
Micky P Kerr, as he is known when he performs, is an unsigned Leeds-born lad who happened to perform his song, Dreamers’ Club, in a Leeds bar the same night an ad agency employee was drinking there.
Micky said: “I suppose it was one of those right time, right place things. The guy was in the process of shooting the ad for Jet2 and they had planned to use an existing chart song.
“They were having a beer in Mixing Tin Leeds after shooting the ad in Tenerife, they just heard me singing ‘Dreamer’s Club’ and said the melody was spot on for what they were looking for, and could they use it?
“It’s brilliant for me. One minute I’m practicing in my bedroom, the next minute my song’s being played on the telly during Coronation Street – how weird is that?”
Laughing in the aisles
